So why the name New York Delhi?

For those who have not worked out our witty and clever name we are influenced by the style of the world renowned New York deli's (notably New York Deli company )and have combined with the taste and vibrancy of Delhi the city in India.

New Yorkers are known for being the most demanding. Wanting the best in quality and service. We share the same principles and only want to produce high quality foods with a high level of service.

What's so unique about New York Delhi snacks?

Snacks – our snacks are made to authentic traditional recipes – no compromise on ingredient and we use our wonderful spices for depth of flavour and incredible kick.

How is New York Delhi Bombay mix different to widely available Bombay mixes?

Widely available Bombay mixes are watered down for Western tastes – they are made of rice flour and a lot of them have additives. New York Delhi refuse to compromise and use chick pea flour (the Rolls Royce of flours) we use our unique spice blends such as the Magic Masala for the depth of flavour and the magic spice salt for the kick.

Why is New York Delhi Bombay mix less oily than the widely available varieties?

The chick pea flour actually does not absorb the oil like rice flour – therefore resulting in a dryer noodle. Widely available often leave an oily residue on the pallet.

How is magic masala different to garam masala's you can buy off the shelf?

Widely available Garam Masala's are highly modified for Western tastes. They are bulked out with cheaper ingredients and have on average 6 ingredients, the original recipe has 15. Shockingly enough most of them have added salt which keeps the price down. They are ground to a powder consistency which loses its strength and essence, they say after 3 months but we believe as soon as they bottle it. For this reason Indian people do not buy off the shelf. New York Delhi's magic masala is made to an age old recipe that comes from India. Nina's mother's is of a generation that refuses to compromise the recipe and still uses 15 quality ingredients. It is ground to a coarse consistency that retains strength and flavour which ages like a fine red wine. In fact here at New York Delhi we are constantly getting requests for aged batches.

Magic masala is a wonder spice. We use in most of our products. It gives amazing depth of flavour. Magic masala not only creates the most amazing curries but can be used in every day British favourites such as casseroles, marinades, pies or as a journalist told us recently even in cauliflower cheese. It's so easy to use.

What is Magic Spice Salt and how do I use it?

Magic spice salt – you would have heard of garlic salt and herb salt – now we have spice salt. An incredible salt that offers 100% taste and flavour with a kick and only has half the salt. Use as a condiment or simply cook with it – use in place of regular salt.

What's so special about the turmeric and Hot chilli?

Our turmeric and Hot chilli we are pleased to say are just turmeric and just hot chilli – ie no additives, salt or cheap ingredients to bulk out.

Can I buy refills for the spices?

Not at the moment but we have been requested this option many a time – watch this space.

How do the spices keep for?

The myth about spices going off after 3 months is true in the case of widely available as they are ground to dust.  New York Delhi blends do not go off as long as they are kept away from direct sunlight and in the silver bag.  The coarse consistency ensures the spices age like a fine red wine.  Here at New York Delhi the team use batches older than two years as the flavour truly gets better with time.

Can I use the spices in British favourites or just for Indian food?

Most certainly.  The spices work brilliantly with casseroles, marinades, pies and even cauliflower cheese as a Journalist once informed us.  Our spice salt is perfect on fish'n'chips, roasties and boiled eggs.
